Penthouse Apartment

What a luxury it is to actually have a place of your own. I was starting to forget what it was like. As of Saturday just gone, we now have somewhere to call our own. A lovely 2 bedroom flat on the top floor (3rd). Location is great, a little place called Wimbledon; you might have heard of it. We are only a 10 minute walk to down-town Wimbledon (trains, tube and shops galore), as well as about a 10 minute bus trek into Southfields (more shops). I have yet to see how long it takes to get into central London, but the overground train here goes straight to Waterloo station so it cannot be too long.

Job front... wish I had better news; but currently I have had no luck with any of my applications. So I am still an unemployed bum! Tam has had more luck with 3-4 call backs. Half her luck :) My motto at the moment... Good things come to those who wait.

Now for the good news; we are now officially ONLINE!!! Not only do we have the Internet here now, but the cost and speeds are insane. I have worked out that here I am paying around a quarter of what I paid back in AUstralia, for a speed that is 4x, and soon to be upgraded to 10x. Cable Internet at speeds of 10Mb is INSANE!!!!

Anyways enough with the rambling, here are a few photos of the place we are staying at, and now we have the net I hope to keep in touch with all of you more frequently.

Leaving Struggle Town...

Just a quick post today... but I though't I would let you all know the mis-adventures that have occured over the last few days. Where too begin... Here goes; it all started virtually the day that I arrived here. Some would say that my 1st week's worth of accomodation could be classed as illegal; actually squatting might be the correct term. We finally left the pub on Tuesday only to end up staying with a friend of a friend. How can I describe this place... the term 'crack-den' comes to mind. The three of us shared a single room; and I used the pillows off a couch to create a poor attempt of a mattress. It was about -2 outside and the cenral heating wasn't exactly working. Tami joined me on the floor as the single bed was far to cramped to 2 people. We then proceeded to use eachother as a blankets... Around 5am we finally had enough and decided to risk catching crabs, HIV and an asortment of other STDs and deadly things too use the blanket. Needless to say we were all up and out of there as soon as humanly possible.

The following night (Wednesday) was spent in a hotel in Wimblebon.. this place was Shangri-La compared to the previous night. We all actually had a bed to ourselves. Who am I to complain though... this is what the Aussie in London experience is all about. I am ashamed that I didn't take any photographic proof the the den, but I do have a photo of the struggle Tam and myself had leaving Wimbledon with everthing we owned on our backs in 0 degrees.

P.s they were taken off my phone to it isn't the best quality around. As I have also just uploaded my pics of my phone so I thought I would also post the pic of my very first pint in the UK

Sight-Seeing

Well, after being in the UK for a week we decided that we should probably got for a little trek into Central London. Was a freezing cold day, but the sun was out so it was nice. Was a little hungover from the night before so I didn't take in the sights as much as I should have, but now I know where everything is so I will definately be heading back sometime soon.

My only regret was that I only took 3 photos; we probably wont be seeing the sun again anytime soon (forcast for rain tomorrow). Oh well, least I got there. I've met some people that have been here for 3-6 months and have seen or done nothing.

Anyways, enough dribble, here are the 3 photos that I took. And yes, I can hear you all saying that I am useless (especially you Tim)... There will be more...

Well I made it... Just

After around 24 hours of flight time I am finally in the UK. What a trip... Oh yeah, did I mention that I managed to get myself an Emergency row seat? 4+ metres legroom. However it did come at a cost, 3 seats across from me was a beautiful baby that didn't stop crying for 15 hours. Small price to pay I suppose. The first leg through to Singapore was interesting to say the least... seat belt sign was on the WHOLE time, and below us for a few hours was what looked like to be qutie an intense lightning storm. Oh well, we made it at least...

First 3 days here I spent in lovely sunshine... yes the sun does come out every now and then. But as I am typing now, it is a nice balmy 3 degrees and grey. I am currently staying above a lovely pub called the Pig N Whistle... dangerous being that close. I have spent most of my time so far holding on to a pint glass. Its amazing, every second Pom drinks Fosters here...

Anyways enough rambling on, here are a couple of pics so far. One of my vast amount of legroom, my pack fully loaded (18kgs) and another of Dubai Internation airport at 5:30am. Place is insane, don't think I want to go back there anytime soon. Will update everyone over the next few days as I might actually do something.
