Just put the Ash in Ashes

What an awesome day! Its not everyday you get to go to the birthplace of cricket. Before I go into detail on what we saw I would just like to thank Tam for an awesome day. It was indeed a SUPERise!!

Where to begin... well we woke up this morning suffering from a killer hangover (as usual). Not only was the hangover killer, but breakfast was to die for :) eggs benedict alla Ash. At this stage I was completely unaware of Tam's plans for the day. All I knew was that it was a suprise that would blow my socks off! I still had no idea when we arrived at St John's Wood until low and behold Lord's appeared right in front of me. I could barely contain myself... overwhelmed is a word that comes to mind.

We had a guided tour that went for just under two hours, covering pretty much the whole complex. We started in the Lord's Museum which was unbelievable. Unfortunately they had a no camera rule so we were unable to take any photos of the memorabilia, but the following cricket treasure items were on display:

  • The Ashes Urn and replica;
  • A number of bats used by Brian Lara (including the bat used when he scored 501*);
  • Baggy Greens from the early 1900's;
  • Balls and Bats used in the very first Ashes series;
  • Matty Hayden's bat used in his 375 run innings;
  • Just to name a few...

Temptation was too great, we plucked up the courage to take a pic of the Ashes Urn with our phones. How could you not... Once we finshed in the museum we ventured into the Pavilion, where we got to see the members areas, committee rooms and the visitors changing rooms. Was really sureal thinking I was in the very room where so many cricketing legends have stood. Once again there was no photography allowed in any of these areas. Finally we got to inside the ground, and here we were allowed to take some photos. My first impression of the pitch was how close you are to the action. Its nothing like the Aussie grounds where you seem to be so far away. What an experience it would be to see a test match here. Our next section was the media centre. What a view... the journalists have the best spot, and free alcohol to boot. What more could you want! Anwyays thats enough of a novel, here are some of the pics... hope you like.

Snow in Spring.... So British

Well, what a lovely day Easter Sunday turned out to be. Not only was the Easter Bunny extremely generous this year, but we also awoke to snow. We had had a few drinks the night before so weren't in good spirits until we saw the snow falling. Who would have thought that it would snow in Spring! They have also forcast snow for tomorrow, so wet muddy slush here we come. Did I mention that it was also bloody freezing!!! We were all still half asleep in these photos.

Wimbledon Village

Hey guys, once again sorry for the delay in posting but I haven't really been doing much of late. Well, I have been doing some stuff just nothing blog worthy. We are coming up to our 1st Month anniversary of moving into our house here, and realised that other than the shops we haven't seen much of what Wimbledon has to offer. So this in mind we went for a bit of a mission up the hill to Wimbledon Village and have a little look around. What we found was a sea of little boutique shops, and pubs; quite a contrast. We had lunch in a pub called The Dog & Fox, whilst watching England beat Ireland in the 6 Nations Rugby.

We also found out exactly where they play tennis here also. When we have more time we might actually head up Church Road and check out Centre Court. So without further adue here are some photos of Wimbledon.

Egged in Egham

First of all I would like to apologize to everyone for the time between blog posts. That being said I think you all will appreciate the wait.

I had my first official interview today at a little place called Egham. The job was for a Web Developer position at a quaint little place called Royal Holloway, University of London, Egham Surrey. OK enough with the boring stuff, let me tell you the funny shit.

It took me around and hour and a half to commute to Egham, changing trains twice. Once I got to Egham (One stop passed Stains for all you Ali-G fans out there), it was about a mile and a half walk to the Uni campus; all up hill. I was cruising up the hill with my iPod cranked when i felt this 'thing' whistle past my ear, closely followed by something hitting my waist, on the right side. I looked down and to my dismay I realised that I had been egged. The egg that hit my waist hit right where my pocket started, thus covering my iPod, phone and wallet in yolk and egg shells. Needless to say I was pissed off! and in a great frame of mind to start a job interview.

I calmed myself down and did fairly well in the interview. I got a call back from the job agency guy and he let me know that my interviewer liked what I had to say, and my practical 'test' was done really well. This would be a great place to work, minus the massive commute to work. It's a lovely looking place... it looks like its been there for 100+ years, as can be seen from the below photos.

In closing, I am expecting some funny feedback as you can't make up story like this

Egged In Egham!
